Spotlighting the Quant veterans: René Burger
In 2025, we are celebrating Quant’s 10-year anniversary as an independent company. Some of our professionals have been part of our journey since the early days and one of them is René Burger, Electrical Technician at our site in Baden, Switzerland.
René Burger has been with the company since well before the 2015 carve-out and recently celebrated his 25-year work anniversary – a testament to his dedication, expertise, and the inspiration he provides to colleagues across the organization.
His time at Quant has brought ups and downs, challenges and successes, and of course many important lessons. Like for many people and organizations around the world, the Covid-19 pandemic was a major challenge, as the nature of his job made remote work impossible.
– Over the years, there have of course been ups and downs, for example due to market fluctuations and changes in the team. But in recent years, I think we’ve had a really good team atmosphere, René says.
– One specific challenge was, of course, the Covid period, when we had to follow strict safety measures and work while keeping a distance of two meters.
“That know-how is crucial”
When asked about the lessons learned throughout his long career, René emphasizes the importance of collaboration.
– Above all, the most valuable skill I have developed during my time with Quant has been collegial cooperation and respectful interaction with people.
Quant’s company values are passionate, professional, and proud. René sees these values reflected daily through the competence and extensive experience within the team.
– We have employees who have been with the company for almost 20 or even 30 years – first at ABB and now at Quant. Their enormous know-how forms the foundation of our work and stands as a testament to our core values.
Competence and development are also key elements of what René himself is most proud of – both from a company perspective and as an individual.
– What I am most proud of is the overall development of the company – from ABB to Quant – and my own growth in technical knowledge, especially in combining electronics and mechanics, he says.
– The know-how of experienced colleagues like myself and others is crucial, especially the deep knowledge of machines that can only be gained through many years of maintenance and operation.
“Always keeping the course forward”
Over his long career, René has gained extensive experience maintaining a wide range of production machines. He knows the equipment in detail, understands how it works, and can recognize early signs when something is not functioning properly. One of the key factors behind this expertise, he says, is curiosity – a piece of advice he would like to pass on to new colleagues.
– Show respect and acceptance, and above all, be inquisitive – especially when getting to know the machines. Listen, ask questions, and actively contribute.
When asked how he would describe Quant’s journey during the past decade, René highlights the progress made – from being part of a large corporation to becoming an independent company striving for continuous development.
– I would describe it as a ‘cruise across the entire Pacific’ – with all its ups and downs, but always keeping the course forward.
