Quant Finland & ABB: Synergistic benefits through a service partnership
ABB and Quant Finland Oy’s partnership enables comprehensive maintenance services for industrial end customers from a single source.
ABB Motion Services offers maintenance and lifecycle services for frequency converters, electric motors, and generators. However, industrial end customers often require broader service packages. When it comes to large industrial plants in the Finnish forest, food, process, or metal industries, Quant Finland Oy’s expertise and service network are in a class of their own.
Quant is a nationally and globally operating market leader in outsourced industrial maintenance.
“We have wanted to find good cooperation partners so that we can better serve our industrial end customers. I see a lot of potential in the fact that Quant has expertise in mechanical maintenance and an extensive network of service locations,” says Miika Lähteenkorva, Area Sales Manager at ABB Motion Services.
“We handle production maintenance for demanding end customers. We operate in the same field as ABB, so we can generate synergy that benefits the end customer by offering the same services from a single source,” says Lauri Kaiharju, Sales Manager at Quant Finland.
Extensive Service Network
The cooperation also works in the other direction, meaning that if an ABB customer needs a larger service package, Quant is a natural maintenance partner. Partner companies receive all the products and services in the Motion Services offering, such as the maintenance of frequency converters, as part of their own portfolio.
The total maintenance of Quant’s customers is handled in fixed units. In addition, we have a mobile service team, meaning that technicians can support the customer’s own core maintenance or perform basic work in smaller production facilities.
Sustainability is a priority
As a maintenance provider, sustainability is a cornerstone in our operations.
“We consider on a case-by-case basis whether to replace or repair the old. We collect data from the equipment and monitor their lifecycle, which means we can make proactive repairs and often avoid purchasing new equipment,” Kaiharju explains.
Mobile maintenance also supports sustainability goals.
“If there are two options, and our colleagues are 5 or 50 kilometers away, then of course, the job is handled by the closest person or team,” Kaiharju continues.
Energy-saving targets are sought, for example, with frequency converters, which can be used to reduce the carbon footprint in the operations.
“If, for example, a frequency converter breaks down and it is repaired at ABB’s frequency converter repair shop, it is possible to achieve a carbon footprint that is up to 80% smaller compared to the customer purchasing a completely new product,” Lähteenkorva points out.
He also emphasizes social responsibility and a safety culture in everything they do:
“We take care of our own personnel so that everyone can go home safely after a workday.”
